Sunday 8th January – Film Making

More of the same for my hosts today, Sabrina studying and Alex working/packing. Alex was following me to America for work, going to my old hunting ground in California so he was getting prepared. I’d mentally prepared for a day of nothing and had a list of things to sort out. At the top was re-registration of my car when I get back to the States which looks like it will work out hopefully with minimal complications. After that I watched some Dakar rally, disappointed that I could only find short videos coverin the action and not really the whole story. Then I got into the real work, making a video out of an adventure I had back in July last year on my road bike.

This is something I’d been sort-of working on for a while but half-heartedly. It was good to be forced into a focus session and I had fun with it, even though I suffered multiple computer failures. My poor Macbook was suffering from over-exhaustion. In the zone, I was aware of movement around me but didn’t really pay attention to what was going on. Around 6pm, Alex announced that he and Sabrina had to drive to Tilburg to get his American credit card that he forgot to pack. Hopeless. I didn’t really understand why they both had to go, I felt like I was cramping their style big time so understood they wanted to get out of my company.

They left and returned just after 11pm. I filled my time by cooking up some pasta and continuing on my film making, doing the ever-important task of song selection. I watched a bit more Dakar, then got to speak to my friend back home who I hadn’t really been in touch with since I’d come to Europe. We had a solid, much needed catch up which was cut short when Alex and Sabrina came home. We were all in bed shortly afterwards with alarms set for very early so we could make the drive to Frankfurt airport.
