Wednesday 5th April – Lazing Around

I really didn’t have anywhere to be today and I had no intention of going anywhere. Unfortunately for Dan, this wasn’t the case, he had to drop in at work to investigate the issue of sinking jetskis, but that didn’t stop us having a relaxing morning. I was out of bed and straight into the lake for a refreshing (bloody cold) shower. The wind was still up so it took a while to warm up afterwards. After a Sarah-made breakfast of bacon and egg bagels, Dan was off to work while I stayed at camp. I had a few things I wanted to do, like fix my door handle and rotate my tyres but none of those things got done.

It was too windy and sunny to be outside, so I spent the whole day inside my van. I sat on my unmade bed and sorted through the laundry I’d dumped in a pile on the bed, folding it all and putting it away like a good little van girl. That done, I enjoyed my newly made bed by lying in it and updating my blog. This campsite really had everything, a great view, total seclusion and cell phone service! The blog lasted an hour or so before I fell asleep. I napped in and out for the next three hours, completely at peace with the lazy-ass day I was having. When I eventually woke up properly to the sound of a jet overhead, I jumped in the lake in an attempt to wake my body up. I had a late lunch of chicken sandwich followed by some yoghurt and picked up on the blog where I’d left off before napping. Around 4pm, Dan returned with a cooler full of beer and plenty of stress to get off his chest. What had once seemed like a dream summer job was quickly turning into politics and bullshit (like all jobs). The jetskis they were renting were below-par and sinking left right and centre because of poor maintenance, but that didn’t stop the company charging the renters $3,000 every time a jetski came back flooded. Not something Dan agreed with and understandably so. By the end of his rant, he was pretty well convinced the job was not for him and that he would be leaving it behind after this coming weekend.

We sat by the lake to watch the sunset which just kept getting better and better every minute, we couldn’t stop taking photos. When the colour had gone out of the sky, we retrieved a second pile of firewood that had been left closeby and got a fire going. After sitting by it for a few hours drinking beers, we decided we should probably eat so I whipped out some leftovers and Dan got his grill out. We pulled apart some of the chicken he’d bought and added mushrooms to my turkey pasta leftovers. After a few minutes over the flame, we were digging in to a delicious dinner. It was a little warmer tonight and the wind gone, which made for another round of perfect conditions for a round of cards by the fire. I beat Dan easily this time in a pretty quick game, good thing too since we were both pretty tired. Me obviously because I’d done so much in the day! The conditions were so perfect that we slept out by the campfire, closing our eyes under the stars. When it got too cold, we picked up the doona and pillows and climbed into Astro, where Cleo was already curled up asleep on my pillow.
